last summer pool day?

It's still hot enough here for a swim in our backyard pool, but we are supposed to get rain this weekend. So far, twice a breeze has blown in with so much moisture in it, you could taste and smell the rain and it seemed like if you could catch a handfull of air, you could just squeeze out water- but we only got a couple of flecks of wet on the ground instead of the torrential downpour the breeze seemed to promise.

I've been trying to get back to taking the kids to the pool regularly and have been really impressed at their abilities. Ivan can swim now with just arm floats and loves it. Dominique swims in a suit with 6 floats in it like Ivan used to use. She can almost keep herself afloat with that and a noodle, but doesn't want the noodle and keeps pushing it away. She is so fearless. She tries to swim all on her own and likes to blow bubbles or put the lower part of her face in.

Ivan is terrified of strangers. It probably didn't help that our seldom seen African friend tried to pick him up and when he ran away, she went after him as he led a terrified chase. He screams if someone comes close to him and runs away if I'm not right there with him.

If you have kids, what all did you teach them about strangers- to fear them, trust them or something in between?

Those are good looking bathing beauties! Ivan better prepare himself because it sounds like Dominique has a good teacher in him so she can master the challenges ( walking, swimming talking etc.)that come her way.

I love little girls in swimsuits - they look like little jelly beans. So cute.

I love your thought provoking questions. It's chilly here now, I can't imagine us in an outdoor pool till next year.....sob sob....

About strangers...
My mom told me this awful story (aparently it was in the news, but I don't watch the news) this girl was kidnapped and was lured a particular way. the man asked if she had seen his puppy, he asked her to help him look for it. as he lured her away from her house, he brought her to where his car was parked in a back alley. he then asked if she could get in and then together they could drive up and down the back allies to look for his dog. she refused and ran away. a couple of days after that, a girl the same age as the first was missing, they found her dead a few weeks later.

scary story. the first girl was smart, knew what to do, knew NOT to get into a car with a stranger.... the second not so lucky.

my mom is on the one extreme in regards to strangers. you know my mom....she is even worse then when you knew her!! LOL she is super paranoid! she is motivated by fear, which is the opposite of faith...in this area. she is terrified of losing one of her grandchildren to a stranger. she is contantly telling ninette and i to teach and train and also SCARE our kids into learning these important lessons. I believe in teaching them, educating them, but not to pass on a fear which will not help them. I'm finding it's a fine line between fear and teaching them the facts, becuase the facts can sometimes scare them! but at the same time, this world is getting really bad! there was a guy beaten almost to death right by our house! and I go running in the evenings....
I guess that's why God tells us to ask him for wisdom.

kids sure do keep us on our toes!
