pics and stories

My mom was joking that it must have been the haircut when I was telling her that Ivan became an extrovert at library time today. He usually hangs back in social situations and slowly becomes involved in activities. I've seen a slow progression at library times. The first month or two, he just sat in my lap. Then he started to stand, or do actions, or sing (over the next several months). Well today I was floored, even a little teary eyed emotional as Ivan belted out the songs louder than the tape and all the parents and kids combined. It was really so cute since he has that little kid voice, not always at the correct rhythm or notes. He was dancing, spinning, jumping and wildly singing twinkle-twinkle little star. Which makes me wonder if he was working up to this because yesterday he wanted to practice that and the other song he sang at forticemo (skinemerinkidinkydink). He also wedged himself in the pack front and center so he could pet all the puppets during a song (normally he wants to pet, but won't get up close enough with all the other kids there).

Other Ivan funnies:
-He must have learned this from a video because of his flawless and dramatic execution, but he very often says: "what's that?" and raises up both arms and smiles
-His other favorite question is "what Ivan want?" I don't get any clues, but I have to guess and it could be a food, drink, activity or something beyond my imagination.
I used to really try to guess (apple juice? a sandwhich?), but it has been more humorous lately to answer with my own desires, like this:

Ivan- What Ivan want?
Me- To use the potty?
Ivan- that an idea, or maybe Ivan want apple juice?

(well, why didn't you just say so Ivan! I mean there is a slight chance you may have wanted to use the potty right? I mean a very slight chance, right?)

Tomorrow is Dominique's birthday!! ;)

What was your best birthday? or birthday event? or tradition?

You don't even have to ask for a tradition, since you know we'll (Dad) buy you a ice cream Birthday cake even when you are not here!

I like some cakes, but I LOVE ice cream cake for my birthday. Beyond that nothing much.

Tell the birthday girl Dominique to be watching for something in the mail in the next few days. It is hard to believe that a year has gone by since we were in Abilene. Miss you guys.

Best birthday was in Ireland when we went to the pub and had a pint of Cider and the band played Happy Birthday and the whole pub (yes, the whole pub) was singing along, just for me. It felt great.

No traditions, not anymore. We used to have a birthday table with flowers and presents and such, but now that I am mostly away we don't have that anymore. (My birthday is usually in the second week of winter semester.)
